Over the course of five years, McKinsey & Company conducted a study to reveal unconscious bias related to gender and race within corporate leadership. Interviews conducted with over 600 firms indicated that while there has been an increase of women filling top level positions, the "glass ceiling" is still very much in place. McKinsey & Company used their research to guide corporations in the development of more inclusive work cultures and unconscious bias training.
Leaders in the anti-money laundering sphere are using the advice offered by this study to create programs and awareness campaigns to address unconscious bias within their ranks. Recently Giant Oak Strategic Communications Manager, Kristen Drye, had the opportunity to share her insights and experiences with John Byrne, Vice Chairman of AML RightSource, as part of the Empowering Together: Women in AML series.
